Beef Stroganoff Sandwiches

Made this dozens of times and it's actually on the menu for tonight.   The original TOH recipe is here-  http://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/Beef-Stroganoff-Sandwich  I leave off the veggies because Tim is not a fan.   I've done it on the french bread, bulky rolls, even hot dog buns!     I also make half the recipe and that's plenty for 4 to 5 sandwiches.   I toast the buns up under the broiler, then pop them back under with the mixture on to melt the cheese.

Beef Stroganoff Sandwich

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
2 pounds ground beef
1/2 cup chopped onion (used Penzey's dried minced)
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 loaf french bread
butter -- softened
16 ounces sour cream (use light)
3 cups cheddar cheese (sometimes use mexican blend)

Brown beef and onion, drain. Add salt, garlic powder, and pepper. Cut bread in half lengthwise. Butter both halves, place on sheets. Remove meat from heat, stir in sour cream. Spoon onto bread. Sprinkle with cheese. Bake at 350 for 20 mins or until cheese is melted.
