Easy Pizza Wontons AND Chocolate Banana Wontons

(originally made 2/22/08)

Wonton MANIA at the Martinelli household this evening.   First, I made the Easy Pizza Wontons, posted by Twinkle30.   They were very good, though there was a definite learning curve on how much sauce.   I did not use the pepperoni.  I used egg beaten with a little water to seal/brush over the finished wontons and laid them on cookie sheets sprayed with canola oil spray.     I baked them at 350 for 12 mins.    Will definitely make them again!

Jake helped make these up for dessert.   Since I didn't have mini chips, we placed 3 to 4 regular chips in each wonton.      I also used the egg wash to seal/brush over these before placing them on the sprayed sheet and baking.     Very good!

Though neither recipes says to, I crimped the Chocolate Banana ones, and none of them leaked.   The pizza ones I didn't and about half leaked, so next time I would crimp those with a fork too.

                            Easy Pizza Wontons

Amount  Measure       Ingredient -- Preparation Method
--------  ------------  --------------------------------
1/2       package  wontons  (I used round)
  1            package  pepperoni (I omitted)
  1            package  mozzarella cheese
  1             bottle  pizza sauce
                        oil for frying

For the Wontons:
Lay out a few wontons at a time and leave the rest of the package covered to discourage drying out. Add about 1 to 2 teaspoons of filling to each wonton. Be careful not to over fill. Wet all edges of the wonton with water and seal, forming a triangle.
Heat oil to medium-high. Fry until browned on both sides. This is a very quick process -- about 15 seconds on each side, approximately. Drain on paper towels. Serve with a side of pizza sauce and enjoy!
For the Nachos:
Heat oil to medium-high. Fry wontons until browned on both sides. Drain on paper towels. Top with cheese, sauce and pepperoni. Microwave until melted and gooey. Eat up!

                         Chocolate-Banana Wontons

Amount  Measure       Ingredient -- Preparation Method
--------  ------------  --------------------------------
  2            serving  butter-flavor cooking spray
  1              large  banana -- diced
  6               Tbsp  mini chocolate chips
24                    wonton wrappers -- half of a 12 oz package
  1               Tbsp  powdered sugar

Preheat oven to 350ºF. Coat a large baking sheet with cooking spray.
In a medium bowl, combine banana and chocolate chips; mix gently.
Place wonton wrappers on a flat surface. Drop banana mixture by teaspoonfuls onto center of each wrapper. Moisten edges of wrapper with wet fingers, fold over one corner to make a triangle and press sides together to seal. Transfer filled wrappers to prepared baking sheet and coat surface with cooking spray.
Bake until wontons are golden brown, about 10 to 12 minutes. Sift powdered sugar over wontons before serving. Yields 4 wontons per serving.
